If you mistype the 'nym of a monk when composing a private message, you get this friendly little message:

root says You tried to say "...", but whoever doesn't exist on this system!

It also appears if you accidentally enclose the target monk's 'nym in square brackets, e.g.:

/msg [whoever] ...

I can't speak for anyone else, but since we normally [bracket] a monk's 'nym while chatting publically, I tend to do so when sending private messages...and end up cleaning up after myself (for once, *grin*).

Would it be possible to enhance the 'nym parser to allow (and politely ignore) brackets around monk names in private messages? Would anyone else consider this useful?

I know, I know...I need to learn to type properly. (Yes, I certainly do.) Nevertheless, it still strikes me as a good idea, if only for consistency. Thoughts? Feedback?

What would be even better is if you could somehow send a reply to root with the name of the monk you meant to send it to. So if I write "/msg jcrwen whatever" root says to me "who'd you mean to send that to?" I reply "/resend jcwren" and it sends it off to him. This maybe could be a new tag (as shown) coupled with a requirement that you check the root's reply in your window.

I know most people around here don't use the "Back" button of their browser because "reposting" can result. But here is a case where it is a very useful button, providing you with a solution that requires even less typing of you and zero typing from vroom.

I like the idea, and furthermore think that brackets could be useful for names with spaces in them, like mine.
