markus_b has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have some problems with CPAN mailing lists, one list cpan-discuss, just ignores my signup requests, the other cpan-testers, needed special massaging to do so.

Now my mail to the support email listmast@lists.perl.org is coming back with a connection timed out. Is the listserver lists.perl.org abandoned ?

The cpan-testers mailing list is deprecated, and I think it's deliberate that you can't subscribe to it - if you did, you'd get THOUSANDS of test reports every day. The infrastructure can't cope with people subscribing to that list any more.

If you want to discuss testing, then you want cpan-testers-discuss.

    No, it's not abandoned.

But the cpantesters wiki explicitly recommends signing up with cpan-testers. This is this in error ?

Tried to sign up with cpan-testers-discuss, but I get no confirmation email. Signing up with cpan-qa works, though.

My emails to the fedback email (listmast@lists.perl.org) still come back with a server timeout.

Which page on the wiki recommends that? That information is out-of-date.

And I just signed up to cpan-testers-discuss just fine by sending mail to cpan-testers-discuss-subscribe@perl.org. Perhaps your mail server is blocking something.

And a quick google shows me that listmast@lists.perl.org has been not working for several years. Where on earth did you find it?
