Curl seems to be one of those attempts to create websites with "richer dynamic content" (altho this is slightly OT). I don't know if that includes reuseable widgets :) It's basically some kinda combination between Java, Javascript and some markup languages, and apparently "can be used with CGI, HTML, Javascript,..."
