thanks japhy, that probably would have tripped me up next. During the conversion from the way things had been done to the new code, the data structures changed in shape and in name a bit. I'll probably be finding more of these little things down the road. The actual problem i was having tye caught: $self->{_lang} wasn't defined. This is because it's now called $self->{_toLang}.
