I just watched a node change at the press of a button. i looked at the preview and it was correct, but then i hit submit and it went all wrong on me. funny thing was, what went wrong was a lot like what i had attempted to report being wrong.

the node was 84239 ("potential flag for future problems"), in which i point out that there are some things looking wrong in perlman:perlre pages. specifically, that there were some occurences of an ampersand followed by "#091;" where there was supposed to be a left square bracket. when i tried to report this, the preview came out ok, but then the real thing, as you can see, changed my ampersand into an ampersand followed by "amp;" -- the HTML ampersand entity. looks like bad recursion here to me.

i think i've explained this as well as i can, but maybe not... you sass what i'm saying? if you don't dig it i can run through it again.

pre-submit update: the above lines were changed to the following in my input box after preview, and i had to change them back.

Hmm. Doesn't happen to me. That would be a pretty serious bug so if it existed for very long, many would probably notice. My first guess was that it was a temporary bug but it doesn't look like vroom was logged in around that time. (:

My second guess is that your web client, firewall, or proxy has a bug. Can you verify that you still have the problem? If so, try a different client or via a different ISP, etc. Are you using anything unusual like a home-grown proxy?

nope. using IE5 on a macintosh. and now it's behaving. *sigh*

well, i still want the edit i originally pointed out. & i want to know why it happened in the first place. but i guess there is no real bug.

Vynce I've had worse when posting from a mac. One time all my code tags had disappeared. Most of the time it works, though. But exploder always complains about connection failure, luckily it's wrong about that most of the times ;).

This happened in one of my posts about a week ago. In my case, chipmunk came in and fixed all the HTML-ized ampersands in my code. That post was in Obfuscation, if it makes a difference in tracking the problem down.

Update: At the request of a senior monk, I add the fact that my problem occured using Mozilla 0.81 on RedHat Linux 7.1. I had assumed it was a Mozilla fluke until I saw this thread.

Experiment: &&  || [] (Typed two ampersands, two pipes, and open/close brackets.) Now it seems to work.
