      leocharre,
I agreed with you about no perl content so I sent a private /msg to ahmad who approved the node to indicate that it was being considered for having no perl content. I was instructed to re-read the node because the problem was about difficulty installing the perl module. I was quite sure ahmad was wrong but I went out on CPAN and searched for ffmpeg and what do you know, FFmpeg turned up. Now I still maintain that this was a poorly worded question and should have been something along the lines of:

I can't seem to get FFmpeg to install on 64 bit windows. Does anyone know how to do that or can suggest a different module that will work? I would prefer ffmpeg but would be happy with any encoder at this point.

I can very much understand why it was considered but thanks to ahmad, after re-reading it (3 times) and searching myself I am now convinced this actually is on-topic.

      Cheers - L~R

oh sorry i was assuming i didnt have to specificy that i was asking for the best video encoder/converter that i could run in my perl script. because thats what my problem is.

You can run any of them from perl, so best would depend on each programs features, not perl.

The interface of adobe premiere is much better.

FWIW, you may find this of interest re a "better one (decoder) in FFmpeg."
