It must have been a bug which was subsequently fixed. I can reproduce your results with: `This is perl, v5.10.0 built for x86_64-linux` [download] but not with: `This is perl 5, version 12, subversion 0 (v5.12.0) built for x86_64-li +nux` [download]	[reply] [d/l] [select]

If you think you have found a bug in perl, always test it against the most recent version - it may have already been fixed (as in this case). 5.10.0 may look new and shiny to a lot of people, but it's just 2 months shy of being 3 years old. And 5.10.1, 5.12.0, 5.12.1, and 5.12.2 have been released since.	[reply]
