That's an interesting idea. I hadn't looked at the code for the more recent threads::shared and didn't realize shared_clone was implemented in pure perl -- I assumed it was in .xs like the rest of the module's code.

Actually, I now think I can solve my problem better using Data::Alias. But I'll have to test to see if this aliasing plays well with shared variables.

It's not something I've ever thought to try. My gut feel says it's not going to work, but please be sure to come back and tell us how you get on.
