    Which "same way"? It doesn't show up or you get the "All activated install areas are read-only" error?

      It shows up in the list with 0 packages.

        So the full error message is:

        "All activated install areas are read-only. You cannot currently install or remove packages. Try enabling the uninitialized Areas in the Preferences dialog"

        I don't use ActiveState and have never used the PPM GUI, have you tried the advice above for enabling these areas? Also, read the FAQ entry for this.
