This is the best discussion site I have ever used. The attitude of the monks is superb. I really appreciate the humility here, that I see even from the guru monks. It's the only place I don't cringe when hitting the send button for fear I am going to get snubbed, ignored or lambasted for not crossing a "t" properly or something. Okay, I got criticized once for nothing, but then 10 monks rushed in to defend me, and without frying the guy who criticized me. Man, you just don't see that too often.

The eagerness of the monks to help without fearing they're going to become a n__bie* enabler is much appreciated. Yes, I can understand the benefit of having to scour the docs for answers, but sometimes it is really helpful to just have someone tell you, and get many different perspectives on an issue.

Sorry if I'm starting to sound too gushy here, but I can't help it.

Thanks

    *(i hate [the word "newbie"])

    I do too. I use the real words "novice" and "neophyte" instead, whichever is most appropriate for the context. But I try to avoid needless labels when possible. I often describe instead of ascribe.

    "PerlMonks is a welcoming community to those who have just begun to learn the Perl programming language."

    Nice post, ++Allasso.

    I agree with you Allasso. Even when you're given a link to documentation, it's helpful, because there's SO MUCH of it out there--it's nice to have a link to current/relevant and best-practice documentation.

    They even respect me, the anonymous monk. Not only this is the best web forum.. this is the best forum anywhere. It is where people practice the rights of right content.
      The rights of right content.

      That is a pretty graceful turn of phrase and, according to Google, the first time it's appeared online.

      Something like that can make up for a lot of Anonyflubs and Anonytrolls.

    The seriousness is due to lack of trolls and spam Certain websites will just let you write a script that deletes system32 or something similar
