There's the PERL_MM_USE_DEFAULT environment variable, which you should set to a true value.

I've also have made very good experiences with App::cpanminus, which seems to require much less interaction by default.

    Yes, cpanminus is the way to go.

    I wrote a quick example of how to use local::lib with cpanminus for local installation of Perl modules.

    Of course cpanminus can be used without local::lib for easier module installation to the default system directories.
