    Well I don't think that Java sucks(as a language). I just prefer to use Perl for my programming. I think your question should be rephrased as "What makes Perl so cool"

    Besides not liking the language as much (just the structure of everything) and not liking the community (no javamonks) I don't like having to sit while my browser downloads a ton of worthless java crap from sombodies website that doesn't actually add to their content. I usually surf in Lynx (which is text only, no java/javascript) or Opera for Linux (which I havn't gotton the java plugin to work for) so even if I wanted to view something done in Java it would be difficult. I guess my main problem with java is it's abused on sites (like many many other html/javascript features) so that downloads take longer.
