Sina Morawej has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi All - couldn't find any answers for this by searching so here we go: I'm developing a perl daemon which runs in the background and will eventually check for various things i.e. logs, dirs, etc ... I also need this process to talk to MySQL but the conventional dbi methods don't seem to work. My knowledge of posix is very fresh and the script i'm using was part of an online tutorial. Any ideas?     Can I suggest that you'll get more help if you include the code you've tried and error messages you've gotten? Also, you may want to take a look at How do I post a question effectively? for some more advice on getting more and better responses.
    Right now, we don't know what you've tried or how it's not working.

    ESP sounds appropriate for this problem.

    Failing that, I suggest reading the error message given by your script.
