I friend of mine running a win98 box had a problem (other than using win98 :). He had a directory containing a lot of files with ugly uppercased filenames. He asked me if I knew of any program to convert these into lover case.

I said, "No, but why don't you try this:"

  perl -e 'opendir(DIR, "."); map ((rename $_, lc($_)), readdir(DIR)); closedir DIR;'

Nothing special about it, but he was very amazed about the power of Perl!

A very handy little script there - the all uppercase name syndrome happens a lot when translating from MSDOS or using 16 bit applications inside of Win9x. That snippet has application in a wide variety of situations - toss it up in craft while you're at it. ;)
Thank you. I will post it right away, borrowing your name of the syndrome. :)
