renzosilv has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I would like to access through perl the information contained on the alerts of an Excel file. For example when I try to open my file which is networked I get an alert if someone has it open. I would like to retrieve the user name of the person who has it open. I have been looking everywhere for a solution to this problem to no avail. Any help would be really appreciated it. Thanks in advance!

    As I told you in reply to Accessing Excel alerts, you can't capture Excel alerts. Nothing has changed since then.

      Thanks, Unfortunately I don't have the rights necessary to run this in the folder which I am trying to retrieve the names from.
        In that case, there is no way you can retrieve the username
