Well, here's a fascinating quote from the contest rules:

Because this is a contest of skill, odds of winning depend upon the quality of submissions received, as determined by the Internet voting and the judges ... Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest should fraud, technical failures, or any other factor beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor impair the integrity of the Contest, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.

While that's only part of the rules, reading through all of them indicates to me that the sponsors think that this really is a "contest of skill". If thirty people get 100 votes each and one couple gets over two million, the sponsors of this contest are going to get a quick lesson in how not to run a contest.

Admittedly, they did ask if you want to vote again. Maybe they did understand. However, I still feel that what you want to do is unethical.

Oh, and you misread the rules. It's $2,500 to each person in the couple and the same amount to the school. You'd get $2,500 and if you kept your promise, you'd be donating $1,250 to Blockstackers. Here's an interesting question, though: did your friend ask his date if she'd agree to volutarily give up half of her potential winnings (won on what she might consider an unethical basis)? If not, that means the amount to Blockstackers is even less. Oh, and what if the story of your cheating got out? Nice, bad rep for Perlmonks. Do us a favor and forget about this. Your thinking that this is acceptable is based upon a tenuous interpretation of the rules.

    Cheers,
    Ovid

Like you said in the Chatterbox, Perl Monks is not Everything2, nor is it "Do My Work For Me".

If you want the $500, do the effort and learn Perl. Either that, or be prepared to click plenty of buttons.

To put it bluntly, go away.

I agree, mostly. More than anything else, I think the whole situation (him trying to get a fraction of the fraction) is funny.

So, to reply to the starting writeup:

If it was me, to hell with spending time making a script and then using it to vote. I'd be clicking like mad.

But I'd suggest using something like bash. I dunno why. I just will.

So use bash. Hope that they use GET transfers. Click the button. See what shows up in the addy bar. Then figure out a way to hit that page a lot. Perhaps wget. I'm not sure.

Your best bet, quite honestly, is bribing a younger sibling to click for you.

    An interesting task...thanks.

Fortunately I came up with a method for doing just what you asked.

Unfortunately for said #213 I found a nice couple from NJ I thought did a better job of making their outfits.

And folks say I am not helpful.

I had just the same thing, but from the other side; I wrote a voting system to allow users of the site (a socce^Wfootball site) vote for player of the tournament in Euro2000. Came in one morning, 17000 votes for an unknown Moroccan... 10 minutes later the script is patched and I can block by IP, or have the script block if someone votes "rapid fire". Had lots of fun getting people ridiculed in their school/workplace :) Rich

I recommend looking into LWP. you might be able to get away with LWP::Simple. stick in it an infinite loop submitting HTTP::Requests to vote.

they might be too smart for that; they might be handing back a randomkey or a cookie that you need to vote. LWP will still be able to handle that, since it can deal with HTTP::Cookies.

How close can you get? write what you can, and ask more specific questions.
