rob171171 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi, I am using the command

 clive --debug -O <logfile> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v....

and what i want to is to have the contecnts of debug written to file. Using the -O option writes the actual video to file as opposed to debug.

Having checked the man clive I can't see any way to do this but I'm sure their must be....Any ideas appreciated

    Have you tried redirecting stderr to a file? (the man page claims debug messages go to stderr)

    The details depend on the shell, but usually it would just be

    $ clive --debug ... 2>logfile

    If you running on Linux/Unix, you can re-direct the debug information to a file:

    clive --debug -O <logfile> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.... 2>>./localfile

    Good Luck

      Many thanks to you both, redirecting stderr does indeed do the trick
