This might not be relevant to the OP, but I'm not so sure about Open3, on win32 it can hang and create zombies.

See Pod::Wrap t/deparse_cmp.t, this test hangs/fails with "An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket." and creates zombies

The problem with that test is that it tries to use select on pipe handles, which doesn't work on Windows. Examine what is said, not who speaks -- Silence betokens consent -- Love the truth but pardon error. "Science is about questioning the status quo. Questioning authority". In the absence of evidence, opinion is indistinguishable from prejudice.	[reply]
