it would not matter that if i posted on any other site
Maybe I was not clear enough because you don't seem to get the point. I never said crossposting is a bad thing. I just pointed out that crossposting without indicating the reason for the crosspost is impolite - not more and not less. The reason is that you misuse the time of the people who help you:
Imagine that someone on Perlmonks takes great time to analyse your problem, and someone different at Perlguru also takes a lot of time to help you, and both come out with the same result. For you, it's fine, because you have your result. But it means that one of the posters, one of the people who spent their precious time helping you, wasted his or her time. If you had pointed out at the Perlmonks site that you are crossposting at Perlguru (and vice versa), the people wanting to help you can have a quick look at the other site (if they want to), to check if your question hasn't been answered already.
BTW I don't actively search for crossposts - I just happen to visit both sites from time to time.

I never heard of needing to give a reason, nor do I see the logic of it.
I always thought one should indicate crosspostings because not doing so
- can result in people answering a question that's already answered on the other site, and
- can result in future readers not getting the benefit of the answers on the other site.

You were already close to it when you said

Making someone answer a question which had already been answered somewhere else, would be a sign of disrespect (kind of "I don't mind if you waste your time"), and this feels to me impolite. Sorry if I was not clear with this.
What matters here is that the OP now seemingly understood the case, and this is a good thing. I remember well that when I started using newsgroups long time ago, it also did not occur to me that crossposting can be annoying.
