Jim has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

When will Strawberry Perl 5.14 be released?

There's stuff in Perl 5.14 I really need (e.g., unicode_strings). I finally made the switch from ActivePerl to Strawberry Perl and—Glory Hallelujah!—I'll never go back.

When will Strawberry Perl 5.14 be released?

Good question - it's taking a long time to appear.
I'm also curious as to precisely what it is that's causing the delay. The compilers that those guys use will build perl-5.14.0 from source without any issues at all (afaik), so I'm thinking that perhaps they've struck issues with some of the extra (non-core) modules that they want to ship with their distro ... or some issues with the relocatability of their distro ... but I don't know.

If you really want a perl-5.14, you could of course install ActivePerl, even if only as an interim measure until Strawberry 5.14 arrives.
Or you could use the compiler (and dmake) that shipped with your current version of Strawberry to build 5.14 from source.

    Cheers,
    Rob

or some issues with the relocatability of their distro

      oh! Is Strawberry relocatable now?

Anyway, that's doubtful. ActivePerl 5.14 has been out for a long time and it's relocatable.

        oh! Is Strawberry relocatable now?

I don't think *all* of their distros are relocatable, but they've been providing some that certainly are.

        Cheers,
        Rob

The site says a build of 5.14 should be coming "SOON".

Strawberry Perl 5.13.0 was released in beta form during Feb. 2011 but was not released as stable until May 2011. I can't even find an early version of 5.14 on the beta page yet so, unless someone dropped the project a bag full of tuits, "SOON" could be months from now. Asking this in #win32 or checking the blog might provide you with a better answer though.

The full intent of 'SOON' is next week right now, but things might slip. Got wedding invitation pictures to take tomorrow, and work today, and other such things that get in the way. :) I would greatly appreciate a few 6-foot-or-so-bags of tuits. (Curtis Jewell)
Any update on the expected release date?

We're in September. Any status updates? Is Strawberry Perl dead? Any description on what specifically is the hold up? Not bitching here, just curious to know why 5.12 followed within a few weeks, but 5.14 takes 6 months.
