Problem with sending strings to syslog

ll001 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello Monks, I'm using the standard sys::syslog to send events to a Linux syslog, and it works as advertised. The problem I'm having is that some of the data I send to the syslog is from an FTP transaction, which causes syslog to throw an error:

with syslog:
chmod_dest: /CR_CMPC2BCH/FileList/./replic_2011-06-30_14_51_16.tar.gz 
+(dst): permission denied (server msg: 'This server does not support o
+perations to modify file attributes.')
 sftp> quit

I really don't understand how I can fix this because it's not even clear to me why this is happening (the leading date?). Could someone have a look and maybe share your thoughts? Thank you for your assistance!

You haven't shown your code so I can only guess what you might be doing with Sys::Syslog. My guess is that you are calling `syslog` with three or more arguments and the second one contains percent characters ('%'). In fact, given the error message, the second argument probably has "%\015" in it. Have a look at Sys::Syslog.	[reply] [d/l]
