Ass-u-me-ing that proper validation is performed, I recommend canonization be automatically bestowed upon anyone who has written a "useful" perl book (e.g., "Learning Perl" or "Programming Perl").

I don't know about "automatic" Perhaps such people might not want to be treated like a god upon entering the monastery. They could petition for a higher rank, but the choice should be theirs.

I don't know about automatic saint-hood, but maybe starting out as a monk (once identity has been verified) would be a good compromise.

Contributions to the site ought to be rewarded, but simply showing up and posting a couple of nodes oughtn't be worth as much as posting a few hundred writeups over the past few months.

I think XP should be doled out only for contributions to this site, if someone writes a book well and good, but if they don't contribute here what use is it to us as Perl Monks?

see page 75 of "Kryten's Useful Perl Book" for more information. ;)

Ok, so Larry Wall would be a novice if he "didn't contribute?"

      Reductio ad absurdum.

        Certainly.

XP is not a measure of what a Monk knows about Perl, but rather an indicator of ones progress through the monastery.

The experience is in the journey, not the destination.
