Did you consider using DBD::CSV?

Secondly, I note that you use parse on lines that are tied in Tie::File, maybe Tie::CSV_File or Text::CSV_XS (much faster than Text::CSV) plus Tie::Hash::DBD using DBD::CSV would make your problem easier to address.
