...UNLESS the ranting paints the CB (and, by unreasonable but quite human extension, PM itself) as a fiefdom of nutcases; as a place where the unpleasantries lead a visitor to write off the site as 'too testy to bother with.'

As I said before, I like the idea; I hope we implement it, but -- even more -- hope we carefully consider the pluses and minuses. (And, of course, my {dark} notions of possible downsides may be unrealistic.)

Maybe we need more power users

      Hear, hear!

But I like the brig idea, too. Kind of a hacker honeypot for trolls...

I was also wondering if it would be possible to display a user's IP address, in a tooltip, for example. This would be ONLY for power users, gods, etc., to help disambiguate duplicate users while protecting privacy.

        WOOT! Yessss!! + +

Capturing an IP (in simple cases, where there's no explicit attempt to conceal it) is an exercise frequently found in CGI tutorials so "possible" is assuredly true. Since The Honorable Breather of Fire is undoubtedly aware of that, perhaps the "possible" refers to the likelihood of acceptance here.

If so, /me votes in the affirmative (early and often) for an idea that's overdue, given the known and suspected troll^H^H^H^H^H disgruntled Monks we've seen, of late.
