Having gotten the go-ahead from my boss friday on the way out the door, I registered for the O'Reilly Open Source Convention / The Perl Conference 5.

My wife upon hearing the words "San Diego," (since she's never been there) lit up like the fireworks approaching in a few days, while frothing about the mouth with plans to visit:

It makes sense to take her along since the company is picking up the dime on the hotel; all I have to pay for is her airfare and food and the immensely cute infant on my homenode (ok so I'm partial ;) flies for free... Now I'm guessing that I can't be the only monk that's going, and probably also not the only monk that is taking along a spouse...

So I put a table (and a form) on my homenode to list all the monks who /msg me to let me know to add them, and whether they are taking along a spouse. chipmunk suggested we could have a perlmonks BOF, and perhaps a spouse BOF would give the spouses a group to hang out or visit the local attractions with as well...

I look forward to meeting any fellow monks that will be attending the conferences!

I'll be there from Sunday to Sunday, giving the llama3 tutorial on Monday, hosting an exhibit booth wednesday through friday, and throwing a renegade party either thursday or friday night (come by the booth to see when and where), and giving away Stonehenge limited-edition Summer 2001 T-shirts to the first 1000 people who ask me, and signing copies of Llama3.

Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, I'll probably be popping over to TJ for some adult refreshment. Let me know if you wanna hook up over there.

I'll be there from Sunday to Sunday. I'll be at the P5P BOF, the PerlMonks BOF (if there is one), the Guru Code Review session (reviewing code!), the P5P Impressions Evening, and I'm giving a talk.

I'll be there from Sat 21st until Sat 28th. I'm giving my Increasing Perl Usage talk (aka "Perl For The People") on Wednesday 25th. I'll also be hanging out at various BOFs. My team (The President's Dog) will be determined to win the Internet Quiz that was so cruelly denied us last year.

I filled in the form to set up a Perlmonks BOF a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had any response yet. I'll chase ORA on that this week and let you all know what the plans are.

To hear L. Wall's talk...
by Anonymous Monk on Jun 28, 2001 at 19:43 UTC
Is there any way to hear Larry Wall's talk without going to the conference? Seems like a silly question, not that I wouldn't mind going to the conference it's just that I can no way afford it nor will an employer pay for it. But, I was interested in hearing the L. Wall's talk or will it be available afterwards on the 'net? Thanks.

Well transcripts of previous "State Of The Onion" talks have been published on the web either on Larry's own site or on perl.com, so there's no reason to suppose that it won't happen again.

Also gnat made MP3s of a number of talks at YAPC::NA, so perhaps he'll do the same at TPC (assuming he's not too busy organising the whole thing!)

I'll be there from Tuesday to Saturday; my talk ("Filesystem Layouts and Apache Performance") is Thursday afternoon (as part of the Apache track as OSCon). My wife will be eight months pregnant at that point, and needless to say, is therefore NOT coming along.

I'm all for a monks BOF as long as it doesn't involve a bus trip to a real monastery :)

My talk, TMTOWTG(T)T(LY)DI will be Wednesday, from 2:15 till 2:45, in the Grande Ballroom C in the East Tower. In one of those happy coincidences, I'm getting to follow davorg!

I'll be getting into town on Sunday afternoon and leaving Saturday morning for a train trip up the coast to the beautiful Bay Area.
