Edit Microsoft Word Documents

NorthShore44 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello PerlMonks, I'm very new to Perl, and don't really know how to do parts of the following task. I have a Word Document that I would like to do a search and replace text on. How can I open, edit, and save a Microsoft Word file using Perl? Your help is much appreciated!

A few ideas for you to try: Open the document. Type CTRL-F. Click on the replace tab and find&replace away. Use Win32::OLE. This will be more difficult but will allow automation Use Text::Extract::Word to extract the text and then use Win32::Word::Writer to recreate the document. Hope this helps some. This will be pretty difficult since you are new to Perl but that's just the way it is with the task you have. Feel free to ask for help with other issues that arise.	[reply]

Insufficient information: On what OS do you want to do this? Insufficient effort: If an OS under which Word is available, what have you tried? If not, have you tried doing this with Open Office or it's relatives?
