Recursive calling of special subs (AUTOLOAD, DESTROY) can eat up the C stack.

    It looks like that might do the trick:

    perl -Mthreads -E"AUTOLOAD{ &{ $_[0] } }; async{ fred(); }->join; say +'done'"

    Though it might take a very long time.
