Hey all,

I'm pretty new to Perl, just a few months. Can I write programs in Perl that can be run on a PDA, specifically a Handspring or Palm, with the current version of Perl?

    As other have mentionned, Perl isn't available for PalmOS, nevertheless, I just found a really good page that list all the alternative (to C) languages you can use on Palm and among them LISP, Python, Javascript, Prolog, Forth and Basic.

    I don't think there's a version for the Palm. I did find a version for HPC/Pro (WinCE). The memory management on the Palm forces a segmented architecture where no segment can be above 64K; this would take some work.

    If you want a language that sucks less than the usual Palm development tools (that is, C), you could look at Pocket Smalltalk, though it's not blindingly fast at runtime. Or if you're so inclined, there's Quartus Forth. Personally, I only know how to think in objects any more, and so no longer use Forth.
