Is it my imagination, or have the recent defensive changes altered the html cache control policies for PM?

I've done no investigation, but it seems that if (for example) I back up to Recent Threads having just viewed a post from there, my browser seems to be immediately refreshing the page. It never used (as recently as a couple of days ago), to do this.

I don't believe that this can be a local thing as I haven't even closed my browser for at least 2 weeks, never mind updated anything that might cause this.

Having gotten tired of going back to a page that should still be in the browser's cache but then having to wait for it to reload (now with different data), I actually spent quite of bit of time studying browser cache control junk.

In the end, I determined that all of the various forms of cache control had almost no impact on convincing any of quite a few browsers that I played with that they don't have to reload. Many browsers would often not reload when I clicked a simple link and then clicked the "Back" button. But every browser would sometimes reload no matter what cache control headers were included. And whether or not to reload appeared to be to a large extent random.

And I observed several different browsers get in "moods" where they would start constantly (every time I got there by clicking "Back") reloading a particularly unfortunate page (such as RAT). Some of those moods I was able to shake the browser out of by telling it to delete all browsing history and all cached pages and then restarting the browser.

Once this "mood" was introduced when I installed a browser add-on. Removing the add-on and also doing the above rather drastic trick failed to revert the "mood". Eventually that instance of the mood just went away again at random even though I still had the add-on installed.

You'll likely have much better success at using cache control headers to convince a browser to always reload a page. I tried lots of combinations of cache control headers and none of them actually resulted in fewer reloads compared to having no cache control headers.

Hm. Okay, but I still think something changed.

I've been in the habit of using this mode of operation -- view RAT; step into posts of interest, possibly posting a reply and then back to RAT; rinse & repeat until I've looked at all the threads of interest in the current batch; then click "I've checked all these" to dispose of that batch and see what else has been posted in the interim -- ever since demerphq first put RAT together.

So that is several years and dozen or so versions of my browser. It has never had this 'mood' before that I recall, and I'm pretty sure I would recall it.

But later tonight I will flush the caches, shut the browser down and shutdown (rather than standby) my system and see if it is in a better mood when I wake :)

Oh, I should have also mentioned that my current browser is having no "mood" issues since the site thrash and I can go "Back" to RAT w/o a reload just fine each of the numerous times I've done it since then.

I use RAT in a different way: I view it, view nodes of interests in new tabs, read them & reply, and once the only tab remaining is the RAT, I click on "I've checked all of these". So I do not have to go back: I keep the old version of RAT open all the time I need it.

While we're speaking of Recently Active Threads, it would be nice, if views for old dates were cached, kinda like last hour of cb, at least the default view ( past 1 days , max depth 10, Node Ancestors or minimal view)
