Well...Obviously I'm a novice at perl. I had an assumption that perl could be portable across various OS - but apparently not that easily. I'm not asking anyone to implement anything...but help with providing an alternative solution.

I had an assumption that perl could be portable across various OS - but apparently not that easily. Right. Perl was written on Unix systems and tries really hard to provide that interface even on other systems. But Windows really sucks at being a Unix. ;-) Your best best may be one of the modules with Win32 in its name. To find the name of a files owner, you need to call a different function on Windows. You need to be careful with certain OS specific functions, this does not only apply for Perl. I advised using Super Search or google, you'd have arrived at potential solutions earlier: Win32::FileSecurity getpwuid / Getting the file owner on Win32 Win32::Perms for ActivePerl 5.12/5.10 x64 and many more	[reply]
