I am planning to write a small TCP server with a custom binary request-response scheme for use in my application. What would be a good Perl module/framework to use that would speed up and simplify development? Here is a list of broad requirements:

  1. The request-response is binary but simple with only a few commands.
  2. I need to maintain state
  3. The request could include large payloads
  4. I need to build this quickly as a prototype to demonstrate an idea

      Thanks you for suggesting Net::EasyTCP. I looked at the docs and a few examples illustrating how this module could be used. Unfortunately (for me!), using this to write a server constrains it to speak to clients written using the same class: something I cannot guarantee in the present project. Apart from this constraint, it does look like a great module and I will look for an opportunity to use it in the future.
