CPAN is the Comprehensive Perl Archive Network. It contains a vast array of modules. A module is a library of code that does some related task like parse CGI data for web programs. I had a quick look at Gedcom.pm and while it could help do what you want it was not designed for the task at hand. It was more designed to manipulate Gedcom files in a way that would let you write your own programs. For a guide to all this stuff see this tutorial New Monks.
