I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment regarding the utility of cutting Outlook out of the loop. However, it's important to remember that, often, folks like me are doing a lot of their perl hacking in an office environment where they don't necessarily have the authority to configure an SMTP server themselves. So, for now, my hands are tied to using the OS and e-mail environment that my company has handed down.

Hi BJ_Covert_Action don't get me wrong. Most of the time you don't need to configure/set up your own SMTP Server. Exchane is a fully standart compilant SMTP server which you can use with perl. And most of the time you din't need to change anything you only need to ask you mail admin(and may be firewall admin) for right settings. I don't know how you comany is handling such requests from my experience most of time you will be allowed to use the current architecture.	[reply]
