cob has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hopefully this is the right place to post this question. I have what I think is a good idea for a web application which I think people will pay for if I make it available to the public. I'm going to write the app in Perl btw. Once I've written the app how do I go about making it available to the public? I've read all about Dancer, Planck and other services which will certainly help but I can't find any information about a)how to actually find a host which has Dancer and other Perl related web app functionality available and b)how then get the app up and running from there. And I want tofind a reliable host as well. Aslo, there are plenty of tutorials out there about how to use Dancer, Planck, etc. But I'm not going to offer this app on my own server. Anybody have any experience doing this that could get me started? Thanks.

It's unlikely you'll find any Dancer-specific hosting. Most hosting services just support Plack, but that's fine since Dancer is based on Plack. How do you find them? Well, with your search engine of choice. I searched for cloud hosting perl plack, and the first hit already pointed to three different hosters.

I also dimly recall that Heroku supports Perl, might be worth investigating too.

All those cloud hosting services publish instrunctions on how to deploy your application to them.

You could try clicking the add banner at the top of this window...

pair.com hosts this site, and I've used them myself with much success.

I take it you are referring to pair networks? I recently discovered they have Perl 5.14.1 installed on their shared servers, however they haven't upgraded the XS modules for their list of installed modules. They said they would push my request for this on to a queue, but nothing yet. Perhaps other customers could help push them along a bit.
