I'm no authority on PAUSE, but these steps seem like they would be socially acceptible, effective, and would possibly result in the module finding a new life with another maintainer.

They also seem an awful lot like work :)

Seems like PAUSE should have an abandon distribution button, that stops forwarding rt.cpan.org bug reports to your @CPAN adress, removes you as maintainer, deletes the release from your CPAN directory, and moves it to A/AB/ABANDONED , and maybe adds a README-ABANDONED.txt

If there is a PAUSE Custodial Account there could be a PAUSE Abandoned Modules Account (or Modules In Need Of Support, PAUSE MINOS )

Contact me via email. My home node lists a few ways to reach me. Let me know the module name. If it interests me I'll pick it up and maintain it. If it doesn't interest me but seems valuable, I'll pick it up as a patch-pusher/tester until someone more interested comes along. I'd rather do that than see something of value just getting deleted. Worst case, I'll try to bridge to the next true maintainer. In that case I would also make a few announcements on the appropriate mailing lists. Dave	[reply]

That makes a great argument for just deleting the module and/or abandoning a PAUSE account	[reply]

It does have an "abandon distribution" option. Go to "change permissions" and then "Give up primary maintainership status (without transfering it)". Whether rt.cpan.org will pay any attention or not I don't know.	[reply]
