pod2usage is not bold'ing output

peterbe249 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm using pod2usage to output POD as a man page. I have a user complaining that when he runs it from an xterm on a linux machine it isn't bolding the output but rather is showing a bunch of ugly escape sequences. I cannot reproduce this. The only difference between my setup and his (that I can see) is that I'm connecting to a linux machine through VNC. Any ideas. P
