The issue is, in my eyes, the documentation is poor.
Poor how? Please stop reading now and write down how its poor, things you don't like, things that are missing, questions that are raised, questions that aren't answered.

Do you know what encoding/decoding means (did you look it up)? Have you visited http://www.json.org/?
Did you see HOW DO I DECODE A DATA FROM OUTER AND ENCODE TO OUTER?
What is missing/lacking from the documentation?
Remember Web Programming: For Beginners? You don't expect CGI documentation to teach you the internet, do you?
