Perl-C Glue

Mr. Newb has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

So this is pretty much an awful question, but is there an interface or something for putting together c and perl? Like I have a function/subroutine in one and try to pass some variables to the other. Can it be done? Is there any documentation on it?
