Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

When ever I use the backspace key when typing input in any of my perl scripts, backspace shows up as ^H (I think) is that something I can fix, and if so, how ? it's a linux system, if that helps... Thanks...

    Assuming that you are using bash add this to .bash_profile in your home directory.

    <code>stty erase '^h'<code>

    stty erase '^h' (from the shell, not from Perl!) works on any reasonable UNIX shell (it's not a builtin). Specifically it works on all sh and csh derivatives I've met.

    ksh is : stty erase ^H
