This monk entered the monastery as a complete initiate to the world of programming. Network dude by day, only in the last year had I begun to delve into the scripting world and my tool of choice was #!/bin/bash. It was with extreme angst that I put down the O'Reilly bash book and picked up my first perl reference.
The monastery has been a hugely positive experience in my transition from bash and realization to the power of perl. One item which has really left me scratching my head was using cpan mods that were object oriented. Classes? Methods? Huh?
I'm still not seeing 20/20, however I did manage to gleen some wisdom from an article in Spring 2000 issue of The Perl Journal.Sean Burke's "A User's View of Object Oriented Modules" speaks directly to those of us out there that really don't care about programming OOModules so much as we just want to understand how to use them!
The article is awesome and I hope that some others just starting out in the brotherhood such as myself can get their hands on this issue of TPJ. In the meantime, I'm going to be rooting through the tutorials to see if I can drum up some more wisdom there.
