Given: Java's wide spread use (3 billion plus devices according to Oracle) and gcc's capability of producing java bytecode from C; would porting Perl to the JVM make more sense than to LLVM?

Philip, Yes, a Java virtual machine is definitely a possibility for the backend. This would likely be part of a "non-guts" approach as (vaguely) outlined in my previous thread: Perl 5 Optimizing Compiler, Part 5: A Vague Outline Emerges Thanks, ~ Will	[reply]
