pushtaev has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

There is a Perl module, Config::Tiny. There is a major patch for it.

Is it possible for me to become co-maintainer of this module, so I can apply patch and make some other improvments? I really like Config::Tiny, but I can not use it properly without above-mentioned patch.

The maintainer of this module doesn't reply to my letters or show some activity in CPAN at all.

I wrote a letter to modules@cpan.org but didn't get a reply yet.

I don't know exactly what should I do in my situatioin, so excuse me if I do something wrong :) But I believe I can be usefull for this module and CPAN.

    There was a reply to your message several days ago. I remember seeing it because I was also attempting to obtain co-maint for a module.

    It has only been a few months, and that author is poking code left and right, so there is nothing for modules@cpan.org to do, they can't make you co-maintainer

    I was going to suggest renaming it, but the Alt idea seems sensible

    I suggest you try different means of contacting the author directly

      According to CPAN author is alive right now, he changed something today and yesterday. But it's still not about Config::Tiny.

      And what should be more direct than writing an email? :)

      P. S. What is fisheye2.atlassian.com? Does CPAN have its own svn-repository? Until now, it looked for me like a big file server.

There are, however, some precautions we have to take. The following paragraphs outline the reason for these precautions and the steps you have to take. Please read them carefully.

    The majority of modules on CPAN has active maintainers. If the maintainer didn't answer the ticket you created in the request tracker, maybe she doesn't know about the CPAN ticketing system yet? Or she's just very busy this week and will get back to you in due time. The best way of helping out is to talk to the current maintainer about what you can do.
