Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have a commercial software product written in XS to protect the source code from theft. It is licensed to customers with an EULA. I have seen Modules on CPAN that already link with non-free commercial software. What would happen if I upload a free 30 day shareware version of my Perl Module Kit to CPAN to spread awareness of my product?

Build a Perl interface to your product if it makes sense to have one, and offer it on your site or as part of your package.   If the product becomes wildly popular, someone else might suggest it for CPAN. But as a "promotional," no.
