Okay, this goes against my policy, but...

First of all, unless you have two computers, you probably don't have Windows 98 AND Windows 95. Most people get this confused. When most people tell me that, they usually (in reality) have Windows 98 and Office 95.

Also, according to the Microsoft Site, you need Windows 98. If you're not sure what Windows you have, watch your computer when it starts - the opening screen will tell you if it's Windows 95 or Windows 98. If you need Excel, Linux won't help you.

Some stuff that might help you out:

• Reinstall your original Office installation (not the Excel 2002), then try installing Excel 2002.
• Turn off your VirusScan and any other programs that are running before you install. This includes any icons in your system tray (the icons next to the clock at the bottom of your screen). For the stuff in the system tray, just right-click on them and most should give you an option to exit.
• Windows Update (Windows 98 only) - Download things like the Internet Explorer, any Critical Updates, and if you haven't already done so, the Customer Service Pack.
• Office Update

As for your present situation, if you're in the US, call up your local Health & Human Services Department. They can refer to you to agencies that can help you out until you get on your feet. Be sure to tell them everything - and oh yeah, sometimes crying over the phone can help
