A subroutine? Not at all. I have put the code inside a block (i.e. the curly braces) to limit the scope of the `no warnings qw/numeric uninitialized/` pragma. CountZero A program should be light and agile, its subroutines connected like a string of pearls. The spirit and intent of the program should be retained throughout.
