Out of curiosity, where does one find a portable version of ActivePerl? I don't remember seeing one before, but I guess I could have missed it. Looking at the (community edition) ActivePerl download page, I'm only seeing installer downloads and not a portable version. Also, a quick Google search turned up this link from ActiveState's user forums from about 4 months ago. On the other hand, it's clear from their releases page that Strawberry Perl offers a portable version of their distribution of Perl. I personally am not really needing/wanting a portable version of ActivePerl. Just have never heard of a portable version of ActiveState and was curious where that is available at.	[reply]

Every version of activeperl is portable ... as is every version of perl on win32 ... How is the default @INC constructed?, Fix_pl2bat, How is the default @INC constructed?, Re^5: @INC site/lib problem on Windows 7 and XP (ActiveState Perl) as is every perl compiled for linux with http://p3rl.org/INSTALL#Relocatable-INC http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/releases/ the zip installer is the closest direct equivalent of strawberryportable ... "installing" perl on win32 is simply copy some files, diddle Config.pm, diddle %PATH%/%PATHEXT%/ftype/assoc The portable versions don't try to diddle ftype/assoc/path/pathext/registry by default and come with an automatic Config.pm diddler ... and come with thumbdrive path sensitivity via ExtUtils::FakeConfig or sitecustomize.pl or Portable ... The essence of portable strawberry is https://metacpan.org/source/KMX/Perl-Dist-Strawberry-3.012/share/portable/portableshell.bat and Portable and maybe an extra vendor cpan configuration (like http://www.citrusperl.com/ does) thats it really maybe an extra one or two files ... the rest is %PATH% and cpan/Config management ... regular sameness Like others have said, the only difference between the two is the license and support contract ActiveState puts restrictions on redistribution the binaries ... as it has done for a very very very long time, and blah blah they're a business they do things their own way (like redhat) I like strawberry, I like citrus, I like compiling my own ... its all the same, just some distributions include more stuff in one download	[reply]

Cool! Thanks for the info. It's been a while since I have dug around ActiveState's website, but I don't remember seeing the .zip file downloads for their releases of ActivePerl. Also, I remember seeing individuals in the past ask about a portable version of Perl for Linux, but for some reason, I don't remember anyone providing as much info on how to make any version/distribution of Perl portable like what you provided.
