Here's my first Perl poem, inspired by a recent post. It's my interpolation of Chapter 1 of the Tao te Ching into perl.
The english would go something like:$Gate_of_Mystery = $tao ne 'Eternal Tao' ? undef : $name ne 'Eternal Name', ( ($heaven, $earth) = [] and @things[0..9999] = @The_Name ) ? undef : sub { while(1) { $the_mystery = desireless(); } while(1) { $the_manifestations = desiring(); } $the_mystery = (*the_mystery = *the_manifestations); $the_mystery = \$the_mystery; }
The tao that can be told is not the Eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the Eternal Name. The Nameless is the origin of heaven and earth The Name is the origin of the 10,000 things. Therefore, always desireless, you see the mystery Ever desiring, you see the manifestations. These two are one-- Manifest, their names are distinct. The same, they are the mystery. Mystery within mystery: The Gate of Mystery.
