You might be suffering of buffering ...
what is your $| set to?
I'd set it like $| = 1; i.e. autoflush ON.

    I have set $| to 1, but it does not seem to help. Thanks for your help, as well as for mentioning perlvar. I was (oh noob that I am) not aware of its existence. Salutations, Detonite
