Re^5: Canonization Without Representation

I am not asking for anything unearned, just for the contemplation (that means serious consideration) of the marginalization going on here of younger monks and what can be done about it. You are exactly asking for something that is unearned. You are asking for people who earned their place on the Saints list to step down so that you can ascend more quickly. The argument that it's not fair that older monks 'got here first' or 'took all the popular questions' and other similar ones is the exact reason why millennials are stereotyped to be entitled whiners. Using your logic, I should be able to go to the US Patent office and say "It's not fair that I was too late to the game in all these inventions that I would have thought of anyway, so lets expire the patents for the ones that have been around a while and let the younger folks get some patents." Nobody is marginalizing you. (Well maybe they are now based on your ridiculous claim of being marginalized simply because 'being younger isn't your fault') If I brought my kids to PM, they'd feel intimidated at first (same as I did) but quickly learn that this is an assload of very useful information (sometimes by people who literally 'wrote the book' on some facets of perl) and they would respect that knowledge, because they've been taught to respect that which should be respected. They wouldn't sit here and whine about how they are having trouble asking questions and earning XP so they can make some stupid (no offense PM, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not important) list. Hell, if they could get all of their questions answered without having to ask one, it would reinforce their belief that this is an awesome site made by awesome people with awesome contributors. Honestly I don't expect you to change your mind, and frankly I don't care whether you do or not. I do find it hilariously ironic that most of your posts have been downvoted, likely costing you XP that you apparently so greatly cherish. That being said, good luck, and I hope you find a way to contribute to the site to reach your XP/Saints list goals. If you do, you'll be a better programmer, and the site will be better off with more useful information. | [reply] |

I'm still kind of lost here. Is it "marginalization" if I'm 20 years older than you are, been in the workforce 20 years longer than you have and I've saved up $1,000,000 in life savings where you have got $10k? | [reply] |

> of the marginalization going on here of younger monks BS! I used to be a younger monk and Saints wasn't of special interest. Being promoted quickly was the dominating fun, like gaining levels in a video game. But at least after reaching saints this got slower and slower, and one had to find other motivations. > and what can be done about it. We could somehow list best newcomers, or so. Either in an own page or a switch in the saints-page. The question is still what for, except for fun and/or getting people hooked? And by the way it wouldn't effect you, this doesn't look too impressive

updateor maybe rather "best performers" - monks like haukex and Eily are regularly in Best Nodes buts still low in Saints, though I don't know how best to measure this. | [reply] [d/l] |

The way forward always starts with a minimal test.

For instance merlyn hasn't posted much for almost an eternity and is still high in your list. Also xp from casting votes shouldn't count here.

...serious consideration) of the marginalization going on here of younger monks If you would please describe in plain, simple terms the marginalization to which you are referring, I'd be grateful. Please include both methods of action, and consequences. I tried to abstract from your postings in this thread but I did not have confidence in my findings. Thank you! ... and what can be done about it. Do you have any suggestions?
I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.
