Is Curses what you were thinking of? (See Curses::Menu)

update: UI::Dialog::Screen::Menu, and Tui::Menu sound like possible candidates too.

Searching on "menu" als shows me Term::ANSIMenu, Term::Menu, Term::Menus, Shell::Menu, and (yuck) Cmenu. It must at least offer you some ideas
